This issue commemorates the long association between Concorde and the late Queen Elizabeth II, including the role of the aircraft in state occasions. We look back at perhaps the most spectacular of these events – the flypast of Buckingham Palace with the Red Arrows for the Queen’s Golden Jubilee in 2002.
This thrilling event is covered in a new book, Concorde, by Mike Bannister – former Chief Concorde Pilot for British Airways. He takes us through his long career with the aircraft, from the thrill of flying her for the first time to the sadness of retirement and the grief after the dreadful crash in 2000. Mach 2 includes a review of this remarkable book.
Mach 2 also brings updates on the latest restoration work being done on the Concordes. As well as reports from Heritage Concorde on G-BOAC at Manchester and G-AXDN at Duxford, we also feature reports on F-WTSA at Orly and the Air France Concorde simulator at Aéroscopia, Toulouse.
