We end this year with a special supplement to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the very last Concorde flight – the return of G-BOAF to her birthplace at Filton, where the British fleet was assembled.
We begin by looking at a couple of stand-out occasions from the beginning and end of Concorde’s life in service. We hear from those who organised and participated in Alpha Fox’s last flight from Heathrow and her spectacular overflight of Bristol before the final touchdown.
On 26 November 2023, Aerospace Bristol and Concorde fans around the world marked the 20th anniversary of Concorde’s retirement. We hear about Alpha Fox’s years on display, first at “Concorde at Filton” and then in the new Aerospace Bristol hangar. Mach 2 also bids goodbye to Oliver Dearden OBE, a leading light of the Bristol Aero Collection Trust, who died in early December.
The story of Concorde still continues, however. The issue ends with two new initiatives – a day of running one of the mighty Olympus 593 engines, and a re-paint of G-BOAD by the Intrepid Museum in New York. This continuing passion for the aircraft bodes well for the years ahead.
