Issue 40: November 2023

On 24 October 2003, scheduled Concorde passenger services were brought to an end when three British Airways Concordes touched down at Heathrow. This issue of Mach 2 features the shared memories and passion for Concorde that exist even today.

We hear from pilots, a cabin crew member, a ground engineer and an air traffic controller, all of whom were involved with Concorde’s retirement and share their memories.

This October saw a week of 20th anniversary commemorative events to pay tribute to Concorde. Mach 2 reports on the events held at Brooklands Museum, British Airways’ head office at Waterside, and the Runway Visitor Park at Manchester.

Since retirement, Concorde has found a new lease of life as a display in museums and as a continuing source of fascination on the internet. Mach 2 reviews a new book by Concorde pilot John Tye, as well as a new film celebrating Concorde’s history.
