Concorde is most often associated with London, Paris and New York – but some of the most important events in the aircraft’s history happened in other parts of the world. In this issue, we look back at Concorde’s involvement with the Gulf states.
The countries of the Persian Gulf saw some of the most significant events for Concorde, from early sales promotion flights to hot temperature trials, route-proving, and the inaugural passenger flight for British Airways.
We hear from a BAC engineer involved with the hot temperature trials run from Bahrain in 1974, with G-BBDG, and – remarkably – from a passenger on one of those flights. We also look at the surprising role played by Gulf Air in supplying cabin crew for G-BOAC during her route-proving trials in 1975.
