Fifty years ago, the French and British prototype Concordes made their maiden flights. In doing so, they changed civil aviation forever.
In this special commemorative issue we remember those historic first flights of prototypes 001 and 002, and include eye-witness accounts from people who were there.
We look back at the 20th anniversary, in 1989. Colin Mitchell of Goodwood Travel recalls how he worked with Air France and British Airways to achieve a double Concorde flight.
Even half a century later, the Concorde story still continues, with the knowledge of this unique aircraft being passed on to new generations. We report from the 50th anniversary celebrations at Aeroscopia in Toulouse, the MAE at Le Bourget, and at the British Concorde museums at Manchester, Duxford, and Brooklands.
