In this issue we mark two 40th anniversaries for Concorde – the inauguration of the all-important services to New York, on 22 November 1977, and the start of the BA Concorde service from London to Singapore, on 9 December 1977.
We are honoured to present first-hand accounts from Captain Tony Meadows of his role as part of the flight crew on both of these historic flights. BA Flight Engineer David Macdonald looks back at the years of legal and political challenges that BA and Air France had to overcome before their two aircraft, F-BVFA and G-BOAA, could make their spectacular double landing at JFK. For the Singapore service, Captain John Hutchinson recalls his time as part of the dedicated team based in Singapore, operating Concorde G-BOAD to the limits of her awesome capabilities.
In addition, we include our regular “Concorde Watch” report, this time featuring G-BOAA at the Museum of Flight at East Fortune and F-BTSD at the Musée de l’Air et de l’Espace at Le Bourget.
