About the magazine

Mach 2 was created to commemorate the work of all the designers, engineers and crew members who created and operated Concorde, and to showcase the aircraft itself.

The magazine was started by Katie John in 2015. The commemoration of Concorde had already begun a few years earlier, when Nigel Ferris created a newsletter for the Save Concorde Group (SCG) as a news source about Concorde and SCG. When Katie and Nigel left SCG  in 2015, Katie revisited the idea in order to create a new magazine, with herself and Nigel as co-editors, offered to all Concorde enthusiasts and members of Concorde groups. From 2019 Katie has been the sole editor, while Nigel has contributed numerous articles, principally on technical and historical matters.

The Mach 2 mission

There is already a large and ever-growing collection of books about Concorde’s history, technical features, development and operation. These books, though excellent, provide more of an overview of Concorde’s development, rather than focusing on the direct experience of those involved with her. Mach 2 is designed as a space for crew members, engineers, passengers and others involved with Concorde to recount their personal experiences of working with the aircraft, and to provide insights that do not always make it into the “official” histories. The magazine also considers some unusual aspects of the Concorde story – such as the role of women in creating and flying the aircraft.

The last 10 years have seen an upsurge in maintenance and restoration work on various Concorde aircraft, with some spectacular results – notably, the return to life of some aeroplanes’ systems and the re-activation of the famous droop noses. Mach 2 has been privileged to witness and report on this work.

This website is intended to bring the magazine to a wider readership, to celebrate the glorious legacy of Concorde and bring the latest news to Concorde supporters everywhere.
